Restoring files from your camera memory card

Image
PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted. It's a bit ol fashioned in that it operates with in a 'text shell' but there is a usable menu system to control the program. Unfortunately I couldn't get PhotoRec to restore DNG files that my Ricoh likes to save. Jump to...

You gotta love Air New Zealand's Safety videos [update]

Image
[update] And the Hobbit clip is now available... I sit up and take notice of the safety requirements, when usually I'm placing the phone in 'flight mode' or flicking through the free mag. I'm hoping they do a Hobbit themed one for when the movies are released. Unfortuantly I couldn't find my fav, the World Cup on YouTube...

Chinese New Year of the Dragon parade, Sydney Australia

Image
This is the first time I've been down to the parade. Found a spot with a couple of mates that wasn't ideal. They got board after an hour and split. Shot from Town Hall opposite the Woolworths and down in China Town opposite the Entertainment Center Pretty much has Adobe CS 5.5's kitchen sink thrown at this one to clean up the 7D's low light capture. Grain reduction, Warp Stabilizer, and the Vibrance pumped up. Audio was captured by an old Zoom H2 bolted to the hot shoe and cleaned up in Audition.

Fess up buddy.

I have a cold today (which sucks cause it’s a Sunday) so I’m spending time catching up with everyone’s responses to the interrogation. I thought I better play some catch-up… Gracious Light What your favourite 'non-tourist trap' places to visit? 13th note café in Glasgow. Classic student hang out with booze and tasty vegi food upstairs, and a basement band space. (Probably not there any more.) Tim Gildersleeve Do you prefer to do touristy activities or just wander around a location? Bit of both. Yasmine What has been your favourite trip so far? Hard to pick between six weeks in Japan, or ferry hopping through the Greek Islands.

Noisy air con

My solution to noisy air-con in a hotel room

Going nowhere fast (cont.)

Boarded the plane back to Oz and found the same air steward from my inward bound flight, greeting passengers. I grinned at her and fired off a quip bout 'hoping the locks on the doors were all functioning correctly' 'That was a long day' she agreed. Thought I could see wariness drift across her face. When we were airborne she visited my seat and dropped off a pair of first class headphones, an express arrival slip, and made another quick apology. Later in the flight I saw her walking the isle comforting a baby in her arms. I like Air New Zealand.

Traveling tip: Solid deodorant

I usually use a roll-on but these tend to leak into the toiletry bag.

Turns out that the plane was late due to a malfunctioning lock on the flight deck door. A replacement had to be flown up from Christchurch. Hard to be 'pissy' with the flight crew. They'd been up since 4.00 am. One of the steward's gave up their dinner to a passenger who had got a bit confused making their booking. Bound to happen with this new-fangled sliding scale ticket purchase systems the airlines are introducing.

Going nowhere, fast

Been sitting here in the Sydney International airport since seven this morning. Drained the Androids battery on the free Wi-Fi. Just scored a $12.00 meal ticket from Air NZ. Twelve bucks doesn't buy much of a meal in this place.
