Passionfruit pick

Passion-fruit are falling off the vine. Bit of an adventure worming about in the undergrowth to find all the fruit. Click here if you don't see the video above

Third garden ready for garlic

Image
After a delivery of fish bits from a mate, this years garlic plot is ready to be planted out in June. I’ll let it sit under a blanket of mulch until then. click here if you don't see the video above

The caterpillars are ‘off the chain’

Image
I was going to leave the little critters alone this year, but they were chewing through the tomatoes at an alarming rate. I must have planted the winter greens too early cause they were also suffering. It’s time to pull out the BT  (Bacillus thuringiensis) solution ( click here to read about it ). After application, the caterpillars die off quite quickly. click here if you don't see the video above

Friday making things

Image
During lock down last year I made some pallet furniture ( click here ). I haven't touched them since and decided to detail them up with my carving tools click here if you don't see the video above click here if you don't see the video above Finished off the bowls with a bit of sanding. click here if you don't see the video above

Apple processing for pectin

Image
This is still a bit of an experiment. Cut up and boil small bits of apple, peel, and cores to extract the pectin. Reduce till left with a gel. a Click here if you don't see the video above

Processing the last of the grapes

Image
Picked the last variety of grape that I have hanging out in the patio. They were a bit over ripe so like last year, I roasted the fruit, strained it, and made a puree. Dehydrated some in the oven Spooned some onto toast. It was nice but might need a bit of kick from some lemon? Click here if you don't see the video above

Winter garden second staggered planting

Image
The first planting a few weeks back ( read here ) has started to sprout…         Same as before, clear the bed, water, then plant, cover with mulch.    More peas up against the wind breaks, lots of beetroot, and cabbage. Click here if you don't see the video above

More power carving on my Friday creation day

Image
I’ve started to carve up some olive wood. Click here if you don't see the video above Click here if you don't see the video above Did a bit more work on the three bowl platter. Few problems with chunks pulled out by the ball gouge along splits in the wood. Click here if you don't see the video above

Tomato, lemon, zucchini, cucumber update

Image
Looking back now, it was naive to think that I could let the tomatoes ‘run free’. Their nature is to split and grow with a ‘bacteria like' enthusiasm. Pinching off laterals has become a daily job in an effort to keep the plants contained to the boundaries of the bed. This is what it looks like now, Click here to see what the bed looked like at the beginning of the month A warmer than usual month is forecast. Will it be warm enough for my tomatoes? A few are developing under the rampant cover. I’ve had to add stakes to tie branches back.     Lemons are doing well. New leaves and flowers are appearing. The ‘problem child’ looks like it’s over the hump and hopefully should start to flourish. I’m getting a decent crop of zucchini and cucumbers. Click here if you don’t see the video above
