Building a kitchen garden

It’s been five years and I still can’t grow lettuce. Damn things ether wilt away to nothing, or bolt straight to seed.

I’ve decided that it must be something to do with sun tolerance.
I’m building a garden in a strip of dirt just outside the kitchen, that sits in shade for most of the summer day.

I cleared out all the weeds, and dropped in some decent fill. Topped it all off with mulch.
Planted some thyme and oregano. Going to see if I can get lettuce and other 'soft veg' to survive.
