Luxor : Las Vegas

The Luxor hotel in Vegas is based on an Egyptian theme and it’s pretty impressive to see a huge black-glazed pyramid rising out of the desert, its entrance guarded by tall Egyptian themed statues.
When you enter, you find yourself in a huge open space. The guest accommodation hang from the sloping walls of the tall pyramidal structure. These rooms are reached by walkways which open out into the enclosed space, like long continuous balconies. It’s possible to look down into the sprawling open space of the casino floor below.
It’s as though someone turned a hotel inside out.

I ate a fine fajita lunch while looking up at these walkways. They looked like huge inverted steps.
Chatting to the waitress, I asked whether anyone had ever committed suicide by leaping from one of those walkways?
She crouched down beside me and whispered, ‘I have to be quiet, the owners are having lunch right behind you.’
Occasionally patrons do jump she confided, and recently someone had crashed into the middle of the buffet.

I can't believe that they wanted to keep this quiet, I thought. It should be advertised out the front as an entertainment attraction. ‘Come to Luxor, you might be lucky enough to see someone impaled on the pointy top of the Imax theatre.’ Punters could bet on where they reckon the next jumper will impact.
If desperate losers who have lost the family home were a little scarce the management could pay people to jump.
