Jetstar is funny
They are
making this 'sliding scale' payment system a fine art!
Logging
onto the Jetstar website (Jetstar) is a joy, but it's amazing what this airline
will slap a value on.
Charging
the passenger for seat selection*. One of the payed options is for
extra leg room, and the middle seats is then a position on the isle
or at a window. There is also a charge of $4 to board the plane ahead
of everyone else.
Pretty
impressed with the 'carry on' baggage allowance**. 10kg is the minimum
and they will charge you for each kg over that limit. A bag this size
is easily enough for an extended trip away and I'm on and off the
plane with minimum hassle (this would be the perfect bag to use).
Also
impressed to see a video embedded in the info page that outlines the
baggage rules.
For our
Starter Fares you are permitted one main item of carry-on baggage and
one other small item, with a total combined weight of up to 10kg.
The Jetstar website is great if you log on via a computer. Unlike Virgin, there is no dedicated mobile site...

While
Virgin (Virgin Australia) appears on my phone beautifully streamlined, Jetstars site
requires a lot of scrolling around.
Rt
@johnbirmingham as much as i hate flying Jetstar, Jetstar hates me
and all of humanity even more.
I was
enjoying a beach bbq with some folk when I was down in Tasmania, and
the conversation touched upon air-travel. Everyone liked Virgin and
hated Jetstar.
The main
issue seemed to be that Jetstar doesn’t wait for late comers. I
didn't realize. I almost always arrive for a flight with plenty of
time to spare.
Is it
better to keep a plane full of people waiting for a couple of tardy
passengers?
* (Easyjet trying it out too?) Easyjet to trial giving allocated seats to passengers
Low-cost airline Easyjet says it will trial giving passengers boarding passes with allocated seat numbers.
**Virgin
Australia allows....
All guests travelling on our
domestic network are permitted to take up to 7kg of
carry-on baggage onboard. Carry-on baggage may consist of:
- Two pieces (e.g. small bag or briefcase) that do not exceed dimensions of 48cm x 34cm x 23cm (total linear dimensions 105cm) each; or
- One small bag or briefcase (total linear dimensions 105cm), plus one non-rigid suit pack or garment bag that does not exceed dimensions of 114cm x 60cm x 11cm (total linear dimensions 185cm).
Note: The
total of each combination must not exceed 7kg.
Note: The
only item that can occupy a seat (apart from a guest) is a cello.
Guests planning to travel with a cello should call the Guest Contact
