Day 7 : Where I find that sports and the arts can co-exist

Heading off to drive the 'forgotten highway' tomorrow.
Lingered for a while in the shower in the campsite as not sure when I'll get my next chance to properly bathe.
The campsite sits behind a pub and Friday night was karaoke night. The vocal accompaniment to the digital muzak wailed on into the morning hours.
Christ, what is Saturday night going to be like?

Got up, and drove down to the city. Discovered a Farmers Market set up on the bank of the river.
Now this was a 'full on' market day. Lot's of fresh produce, home made art, strange little stalls, and buskers.

After doing the rounds of the markets, I walked up to the Chronicle gallery for works made of glass was open, and I sat for half an hour, peering down into a pit where an artist manipulated molten glass into a beautiful paperweight of a mushroom suspended inside is global of glass.

Decided to see what the conspicuous towers were on top of the hills. Found an antique elevator and some great views of the surrounding country side.

Comparison

This city seems to be sitting at the point of collusion between the arty farty and super sporty.
  • Several art schools vs. horse track
  • Several dance studios vs. rowing on river
  • Opera house vs. Velodrome
  • Local repertory theater doesn't look decrepit vs. indoor sporting ground.

Victoria lake

Feels like relic of Victorian times.
Nice storybook statues scattered about, and a giant brass water lily floating out in the middle of the lake.
More kidnapped cockatoos discovered in large Avery you can walk inside the cage here with an excellent chance of being shat on(name this in fielding too) more warnings of biting
At night the trees are lit with coloured spots. I was just about to leave the lake when the fountain got turned on. The water was lite from within by light which shifted through hues like liquid fire works.
